While the plot of Avatar 3 remains unclear, it is known that the third installment will introduce fans to a different side of Pandora and Na’vi community. It is set to focus on Ash people, volcano-dwelling beings, which appears a fitting decision for the makers to land on the title Avatar: Fire and Ash. But there’s more to it than meets the eye.

The title unveiled at Disney’s D23 Expo has a deeper meaning and director James Cameron himself confirmed it during the event. In the presence of lead cast members Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington, the veteran filmmaker revealed, “Fire can represent hatred, violence, trauma, and possible misuse of power. There’s a lot of thematic stuff.

What does ash represent? In my mind, ash represents the aftermath of all of that energy, which is grief and having to live with what you've done.” A post shared by Rotten Tomatoes (@rottentomatoes) Cameron teased the characters will face deeper consequences in the upcoming entry. “This film goes much deeper on our characters and [the] deep emotional consequences for them that threaten their relationships, tests their bonds,” he said.

According to him, the audience should hope for something “unexpected” looking at what they’ve seen in the six hours of the ‘Avatar’ saga between the first and the second film.
