Pune: NCP (SCP) state president Jayant Patil criticised the state govt for organising the ‘Lakhpati Didi' event in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Jalgaon on Sunday. Patil said govt should have postponed the event against the backdrop of the Nepal bus accident, which claimed the lives of 27 people from the Jalgaon district. "The entire district is in grief over the unfortunate accident.

In such a situation, the state govt is celebrating the Lakhpati Didi scheme in Jalgaon. They even invited the PM to the event," Patil said while interacting with mediapersons in Pune. The senior politician further said, "The govt should have either avoided holding the programme or informed the PM about the situation so that he would've cancelled it on his own.

" On Sunday, PM Modi distributed certificates to several women who benefitted from the centre's ‘Lakhpati Didi' scheme. The PM also addressed a gathering of women at the venue. The NCP (SCP) leader also said the govt is over-obsessed with the ‘Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana', and it believes the scheme will help them (in the assembly elections).

"The whole govt is running behind one scheme," he said, adding that his party does not oppose the scheme but believes it can be implemented in a better way. Patil, whohas served as the finance minister of Maharashtra in the past, said officials of the finance ministry are under pressure after the launch of this scheme. "The govt has cut or stopped funds for several existing schemes.

Officials of the finance department probably are unable to sleep peacefully at night, wondering how to get through this situation," he said. When asked about Raj Thackeray blaming Sharad Pawar for ‘caste politics' in Maharashtra, Patil said, "There is no fact in these allegations. It is just an attempt to hammer somethinginto people's minds by saying it repeatedly.

It is one of the techniques of the campaign." Patil said Sharad Pawar has moved ahead by taking along people from all communities throughout his life. "However,Raj Thackeray should talk about those people who do ‘caste politics'," he said.
