NUTTER FORT, W.Va. (WV News) — The clutch second-half shot-making of Jada Sutherlin helped the Robert C.

Byrd Eagles outlast an double-overtime home test from visiting South Harrison Hawks to pick up its first win of the 2024-25 season on Saturday afternoon, 52-46. With the game tied at 46-all midway through the second overtime period, Sutherlin drained her fourth 3-pointer of the game to give Robert C. Byrd an advantage it'd never again relinquish sealing the win.



"Although there will always be a few negatives to learn from when having such a young team, I like to focus on the positives," Robert C. Byrd coach Robert Shields said. "I felt that our team showed a lot of resiliency.

And although it was ugly at times I think we're looking in the right spots and making progress." Behind clutch marksmanship from beyond the arc, Sutherlin stuffed the stat-sheet with 19 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks to help the Eagles ward off a late surge from the comeback-minded Hawks. Kendall Sturm also topped double figures for Robert C.

Byrd with 13 points while Amirah Moore chimed in with six points and a nine rebounds to join Sutherlin in pacing the young Eagles to victory. Trailing for much of regulation, South Harrison leaned on a balanced attack headed by Halle Bland to push Robert C. Byrd to the brink.

Bland was the lone Hawk to top double-digit scoring production in the loss, draining four 3-point jumpers of her own to finish with a team-high 16 points while adding .
