The 11-year-old boy killed when a car ploughed through a Melbourne primary school fence has been identified. Jack Davey, was sitting at a table with four other students at Auburn South Primary School in Hawthorn East when they were hit about 2.50pm on Tuesday .
He was transported to hospital but died on the way. Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today The young boy has been remembered as a “valued member” of multiple local sports clubs including the Titans Junior Basketball Club and the Glen Iris Gladiators Football Club, according to a fundraiser set up for his family . “(We) are helping to support the Davey family with costs relating to the loss of Jack and to assist them to have time away from work during this heartbreaking time,” organiser Lucy Pristel said.
“All funds will go directly to the immediate Davey family.” On Wednesday morning school principal Marcus Wicher said the incident was a “complete tragedy” and offered his condolences to Jack’s family. “Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies are with Jack’s family and friends and our thoughts are also with the four students that remain in hospital and, of course, their beautiful families,” he said.
Two 11-year-old girls, one 10-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy were all taken to hospital where they remain in stable conditions. Wicher said the community response in the wake of the accident had been “overwhelming”. “I extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone,” he said.
