It's true what they say, as you reach your mid-30s obtaining that fresh-faced natural youthful glow takes a little more work. However, I've always been lucky enough to have quite good skin, the odd breakout and sometimes a little dry but no major complaints- however call it my comfort blanket but, I've always worn foundation that gives me maximum coverage. Why? Someone asked me when they saw my bare, no make-up face.

I couldn't really answer, I guess over the years I've been enticed by beauty adverts from popular brands showing flawlessly airbrushed skin. But now at 36, I've been looking for alternatives that enhance with a more natural finish. I recently discovered the Dr Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF50 £37 here, I tried it on a recent holiday (instead of heavy foundation ) and haven't looked back since.

This gorgeous tinted beauty balm has now become my makeup bag essential both home and away. Read more: ‘This tan remover saved my fake tan disaster in under 60 seconds – I won’t be without it now’ Read more: ‘I tried Kylie Jenner’s new Kylie Cosmetics skin tint and my skin has never looked better’ Skincare, makeup and SPF 50 in this BB Cream does it all in one. After being lucky enough to learn a lot more about skincare (through the savvy beauty team) I am more conscious of buying skincare products that offer a lot more, and importantly contain SPF.

The easy-to-apply balm not only evens your skin tone; it also moisturises, improves the skin’s barrier (which is a must if, like me, you suffer from sensitive skin) and offers SPF 50 protection against UVA and UVB rays. It's the ultimate multi-tasker for a no-makeup makeup look - I never thought I'd say it but I'm a convert. How to use it? After toning skin (and moisturising if you’d like) warm a pea-size amount of BB cream between fingers and blend into the face and neck.

Wait a minute or so for the hydrating formula to dry down and adapt to your true skin tone. You can build up coverage if needed. I tend to apply two pumps to achieve the base I desire, but a little goes a long way.

I have been wearing the shade light-medium, which looks great when a little sunkissed, and pop on my Charlotte Tilbury contour wand, £30 here on top for that extra holiday-esque glow. Thanks to this product I finally feel confident without being caked in a layer of foundation. If you're into celebrity beauty brands and intrigued to try the Kylie Cosmetics Skin Tint , our Style Writer Faith Richardson just reviewed it and was impressed with the result.

She says, "it's a product that is now going to be in permanent rotation in my beauty bag." Otherwise, If you’re looking for slightly more coverage without being too heavy, the e.l.

f. Soft Glam Satin Foundation , £8, gives a dewy satin finish with a subtle glow. In the meantime if your Dr Jart+ shade is sold out on Sephora (deep tan is currently showing as out of stock) you'll also find the Dr Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF50 £37 at Beauty Bay here .
