California is my happy place. The abundance of wine (obviously), the great food, the swanky , the stunning landscape..
.it’s all ideal vacation stuff for me. Every time I go, I make it a point to stay somewhere new.
And this time, I landed on : a recently renovated boutique in the heart of the city of Sonoma. It ended up being the perfect home base for a big family trip. Like, luxurious enough to make celebrating my mom’s 60th feel special, but also chill enough that wheeling my 8-month-old son around the property in his stroller received exactly zero eye rolls.
Keep reading for my full review of the hotel—along with details on where to eat and drink, what to do at the spa, a rundown of the rooms, and more. A lot of high-end hotels tend to feel cookie-cutter to me. Often, it’s the same made-for-IG aesthetic (the all-white RH cloud couch, strategically placed succulents, wafting through the air, etc.
). While this is all very nice, it’s also very generic. I think that’s why I was initially so impressed with MacArthur.
Yes, there are succulents in the lobby (it’s California!) and, yes, it smells good, but overall the vibe felt so unique. A mix of city and country, modern and antique—like a fancy art person’s restored farmhouse or something. The property consists of the lobby (which houses a coffee counter, American-style bar, and their on-property restaurant) and then a collection of small farm-style buildings that make up the spa, rooms, and suites.
All of it i.
