DALLAS — Dallas country singer Joshua Ray Walker took to social media to share that he is now "cancer free" after he was diagnosed with colon cancer in December 2023. Walker , 33, detailed his cancer journey on his Instagram page Friday, writing that he was just as surprised as his doctors were. "I’m so excited to share with you that my pre-surgery diagnosis was incorrect, I’ve beat the odds and to everyone’s complete surprise, my lungs are cancer free," Walker wrote.
The news is a full 180-degree pivot from where he was in early September when he shared that the colon cancer had spread to his lungs. "That’s a crazy thing to say considering the odds I was told I was up against a little over a month ago." Walker wrote.
He goes on to say that his life is not in imminent danger but he's not totally in the clear. He won't be in remission for another five years, and he'll be tested and scanned often between now and then. "As far as my doctors can tell, there is no discernible amount of cancer anywhere in my body at the moment," Walker wrote.
A post shared by Joshua Ray Walker (@joshuaraywalker) WFAA featured Walker and his cancer journey earlier this year when he began a series of shows at the Kessler Theater in Dallas. Back then, he expressed both optimism and patience. "People are going to forget I was gone for six months," he told WFAA during a May interview.
"I have a lot more music I want to make, and more art to create." Walker also expressed gratitude in his post .
