ITV viewers all said the same thing as they tuned in to watch Sophie Turner's new drama, Joan. The broadcaster has been promoting Joan for months and now the first episode has aired on Sunday, September 29, telling the story of real-life jewel thief Joan Hannington. The six-part drama kicks off with Joan (played by Sophie Turner) in the 1980s, taking care of her daughter Kelly, and dancing to Bucks Fizz around the kitchen before she goes to work at a club.
When she returns home, her husband Gary (Nick Blood) isn’t there and doesn’t show up until morning and tells her that he needs to leave for a while as he’s got people after him. It is only when two men show up at her home and put a gun in Joan’s mouth that she really takes it seriously and decides to leave him, putting their daughter in temporary foster care while she figures out what to do next. But despite the serious nature of what Joan is going through in the first part of episode one, fans couldn’t help but praise the show for its depiction of the 1980s through its fashion and music.
