James Martin shared a poignant reflection about his family during a segment on his Saturday morning cooking show on ITV . The 52-year-old celebrity chef, renowned for his heartwarming and delicious dishes, welcomed the likes of Lesley Walters and Gareth Malone before turning his attention to culinary delights involving tomatoes. As he joined fellow chefs Sat Bains and Francesco Mazzei in showing various cooking techniques with the fruit, James' tone took a sombre turn when he touched upon the subject of growing his own tomatoes.

He remarked: "Varying degrees of success this year, that's one of the fascinations with growing your own stuff." And It was within this discussion that James expressed a heartfelt regret: "And one of the regrets that I have now is sadly, I lost both my grandfather and my uncle, not taking more advice, paying more notice really in their expertise when they were growing the tomatoes. "You sort of go down there 'why can't yours be the same as theirs was?' "Because they've got love and care and attention all the time I guess really.



"But it's just nice to give it a go every sort of season." Although James' father's background as a catering manager at Castle Howard in Yorkshire is quite well-documented, less is known publicly about his grandfather and uncle. That said, on an earlier episode of Saturday Morning, James did share that the first thing he constructed after purchasing his Hampshire residence was a greenhouse, inspired by his grandparents.
