Paper clips come in all shapes and sizes. I have a collection of the ordinary ones: metal and plastic covered colored ones along with others that I use for keeping things in orderly fashion. So this past week, I anxiously searched for one VERY special paper clip that was purchased at a PS 46 Christmas fair in 1979, a gift that my daughter bought for her grandfather (my dad).
Being a stay-at-home mom allowed me the opportunity to attend PTA meetings as well as fundraisers when my children were in grade school. I volunteered at a variety of school events and helped out often when I was needed. I must include that the mothers were very dedicated and worked hard for the children and the school.
Our principal, Mr. Cugini, sometimes attended our meetings and one afternoon, his name was drawn from a raffle and he “won” a shirt with a sincere message written across the front stating he was our well-loved principal. Of course, it was a planned gift but it delighted him to see how much he was appreciated by the parents whose children attended “his” school.
While it was still quiet and before the children arrived at our ‘79 holiday fair ready to make their selections, I scanned the table offerings and noticed what I thought was an unimpressive black paper clip resting on a round base about eight inches tall. I mentally thought it seemed to be a silly purchase for the children. I must admit, I’m not the most organized person, but certain possessions are treasures to me and I .
