Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi led a national public safety meeting ahead of the launch to implement strategies for protecting the millions of pilgrims and visitors anticipated during the celebrations. Approximately 700 additional security personnel have been stationed throughout the capital, bolstering routine patrols in high-priority areas such as the Vatican, Basilicas, and central Rome.

Marking the start of the Jubilee, Pope Francis ceremonially opened the iconic bronze ‘Holy Door’ at St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. Law enforcement was highly visible across Rome, including St.



Peter’s Square, where security measures were intensified. Key access routes to the Vatican, including Via Ottaviano and Via della Conciliazione, featured enhanced security checkpoints staffed by police, Carabinieri, Guardia di Finanza, and local authorities, as reported by Xinhua News citing state media outlet Ansa. The Jubilee celebrations will continue until January 6, 2026.

The security measures for the 2025 Jubilee Year include cutting-edge surveillance technology and rapid-response teams positioned at key locations. Facial recognition systems have been deployed at airports, train stations, and prominent tourist destinations to monitor crowds and swiftly identify potential threats.
