Read More Most passengers expect a smooth take-off, a few snacks and maybe a nap on their flight. But on a recent Brussels Airlines flight, one mother-to-be got a surprise she’d never forget. Shortly after departing from Dakar, Senegal, a pregnant woman named Ndeye alerted the crew that she was in “severe pain," according to a post by the airline on LinkedIn.

Flight attendant Jennifer Joie quickly assessed the situation and realised this wasn’t just a case of discomfort, these were contractions. She immediately put out a call for medical professionals onboard and two passengers—a doctor and a 22-year-old nurse—stepped up to help. Together, they guided Ndeye through breathing exercises as her labour progressed.

Then, her water broke. Pilots swiftly turned the plane back towards Dakar, but before they could land, baby Fanta had already made her entrance into the world. “The first moments were tense – was she okay? Was she breathing? And then, the most beautiful sound filled the cabin: her first cry," the airline wrote in their post on LinkedIn.

“Holding baby Fanta in her arms as they landed in Dakar is a moment Jennifer will never forget. Stories like these remind us that being cabin crew is more than just flying—it’s about caring for people, no matter the situation," they added. Thankfully, the doctor confirmed that both mum and baby were healthy.
