Monday, August 19, 2024 Istanbul Airport has been ranked as the world’s most connected airport for 2024, solidifying its position as a leading global aviation hub. According to a recent survey conducted by an aviation analytics firm, Istanbul Airport now serves 309 destinations worldwide. It is driven primarily by Turkish Airlines , which flies to more countries than any other airline.

This achievement highlights Istanbul Airport’s critical role in international travel and its growing importance as a gateway between Europe, Asia and beyond. The airport’s extensive connectivity has been a significant factor in its rise to the top, surpassing other major global hubs. Frankfurt Airport, one of Europe’s busiest, ranked as the second most connected airport, offering services to 296 destinations in the first half of 2024.



Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport followed closely in third place, with 282 destinations. These rankings emphasize the dominance of European airports in global connectivity, with half of the top 20 most connected airports located in Europe. The survey also highlighted the presence of other major global hubs.

Both China and the United States each had four airports featured in the top 20, underscoring their significant roles in international aviation. The Middle East contributed two entries to the list, reflecting the region’s strategic importance in connecting global air traffic. London’s major airports, Heathrow and Gatwick were also included in the top rankings, positioned at 12 th and 14 th respectively.

These results illustrate London’s continued relevance in global travel, despite intense competition from other European and international airports. Istanbul Airport’s rise to the top is largely attributed to the strategic expansion efforts of Turkish Airlines, which has capitalized on Istanbul’s geographic location to offer extensive flight options across continents.
