Like A Dragon: Yakuza is Amazon Prime's latest live-action video game adaptation which follows hot on the heels of the streaming platform's successful version of Fallout. Now, its the turn of Japanese action series which saw players take on the role of Kazuma Kiryu, a Yakuza for the Dojima family. Based on the popular Yakuza franchise published by Sega, fans will get to see familiar characters from the games in a brand new story.

They will also get to see them within a familiar setting as it remains true to the source material. But where is the series based and is it a real part of Japan? Here's what you need to know. Similar to how the Grand Theft Auto franchise takes inspiration for its locations from real life US cities, such as Los Angeles becoming Los Santos and Miami for Vice City, the Yakuza series took a similar tact.



That in turn is being replicated for the Like A Dragon Amazon show, as most of the action will take place in the area of Kamurocho. However, this is not a real area or city in Japan. It is a fictionalised entertainment district modelled after an area in a real city.

While not specific in the Amazon series, for the game the developers have said how they were influenced by the area of Kabukicho, the red light district area of Tokyo situated in the Shinjuku ward. Kamurocho is also the place where many of the Yakuza members of the series carry out their business, such as the Tojo Clan, Omi Alliance and Dojima Family. The area has many restaurants, shops and .
