‘You’ll believe a man can fly” — they weren’t messing around with that tagline. I asked my dad recently if he can remember the first time we watched Richard Donner’s original Superman movie together. He says it must have been a Christmas viewing at home sometime around the early 1990s.
I must have been four, maybe five years old at the time. There were plenty of distractions, plenty of toys to play with, but Superman triumphed over everything that Christmas. Back then, to my mind at least, the man of steel lived on the page in comic books.
