The beautiful gated dormer bungalow at Tonnagh, Charlestown, which was built in the early-2000s, was named 'The Fort' due to the great privacy it offered the 'Wonderwall' singers and their extended family. Liam and Noel, who are reuniting for the first time since 2009, are due to perform at Croke Park on August 16 and 17 next year with tickets gone on sale this morning.

The stunning four bedroom home, which was on the market for €309,000 by James Kilcoyne Auctioneers sold in recent days for a little above the asking price. Their mum Peggy Gallagher, who was one of 11 children and emigrated from the county Mayo town at just 18 to work as a housekeeper and child-minder. She grew up in Sonnagh on the old Charlestown-Swinford road – less than a 10-minute drive away from their home of 19 years at Tonnagh, Charlestown.

Inside the property The family used the residence located just a few kilometres outside the town when Peggy returned several times a year to visit her sister and relatives. A source said: "They kept themselves to themselves when they were here and did not know many of their close neighbours. "But they had the house for about 19 years and I believe they enjoyed coming back and reconnecting with family and friends.

" It is understood that Peggy and eldest son Paul were regular visitors, while Liam and Noel both stayed numerous times at the house and visited with their children over the years. Paul is good friends with former Mayo footballer John Casey and is popular in the area. It was named 'The Fort' due to the great privacy it offered the 'Wonderwall' singers and their extended family However, it is understood in recent years it was becoming more difficult for mum Peggy, 81, to travel and they subsequently decided to sell.

Their secluded and peaceful residence of 19 years is located on a quiet country road and it is a world away from the council house in busy Manchester where Peggy raised her three sons. On the property page it was described as: 'Superb dormer bungalow with beautiful stone work to part of the front façade situated at Tonnagh, Charlestown, Co. Mayo offering countryside living whilst being only 5km from Charlestown and all its amenities and within commuting distance of Sligo (40 mins) & Castlebar (35 mins)'.

The property has a bright, spacious sitting room with wood flooring and a feature fireplace and an attractive kitchen-dining room with part wood flooring, oil fired stove and patio doors leading to the decking area. It also includes two double bedrooms and shower room and two large bedrooms with master en-suite and a large family bathroom. The description of the property states, "Externally the property sits on a stunning landscaped site extending to C1 acres with manicured lawns, an array of shrubs and hedging which compliments the property and is ideal for the garden enthusiast.

"This property includes a large tarmac driveway providing ample parking space and beautiful feature stone wall with wrought iron." he house also features a treadmill in one of the bedrooms and it is unclear if former hellraisers Liam and Noel regularly used the exercise equipment. It is believed Liam stayed in the house in 2015 when a video of him playing an impromptu gig and tunes in JJ Finan's pub in Charlestown went viral and was viewed all over the world.

John Finan, the proud owner, has praised Liam for tourists coming in droves to the bar after the pub was featured in his As It Was documentary. The 2019 documentary features Liam stating that his music was reborn in the west of Ireland, while he also reignites his feud with brother Noel. Peggy previously said she believed the media had been exaggerating the tension between Liam and Noel and insisted “Ah they’re fine, the papers make it a lot worse than what it is.
