Monday, September 16, 2024 The Iran Tourism Board has successfully wrapped up its impactful three-city roadshow across India, aimed at promoting Iran’s rich cultural heritage and diverse travel experiences. The initiative commenced in Mumbai on September 10, proceeded to Hyderabad on September 12, and concluded in New Delhi on September 13, 2024. This strategic campaign positioned the Islamic Republic of Iran as a premier destination for Indian tourists.

The roadshow was attended by high-ranking officials from Iran’s Tourism Ministry and the Iranian Consulate in Mumbai, alongside key representatives from the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. Their participation underscored the Iranian government’s commitment to enhancing tourism relations with India. A primary objective of the roadshow was to foster collaboration between the Iranian and Indian tourism sectors.

Eleven Iranian hoteliers and travel agents took part, engaging with Indian travel professionals to explore business partnerships and present customized tourism packages tailored for the Indian market. The event facilitated connections with prominent Indian tourism organizations, including the Maharashtra Tourism Office of Asia (MTOA), the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI), the Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI), and the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO), significantly boosting Iran’s visibility among Indian travel agencies. Emphasizing the deep historical and cultural bonds between the two nations, Iranian representatives highlighted the shared legacy of renowned Persian poets and Indian literary figures, noting their roles as cultural bridges that foster mutual understanding and appreciation.

They also highlighted Mumbai’s pivotal role in nurturing cultural and business relations between Iran and India. The Acting Consul General of Iran in Mumbai delivered a compelling keynote address, focusing on the strategic importance of the Chabahar Port project for regional trade and connectivity. He encouraged Indian travelers to experience the authentic Iran, urging them to look beyond media stereotypes and engage directly with Iran’s people and culture.

A significant highlight of the roadshow was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Iranian Tour Operators Association (ITOA) and the Outbound Tour Operators Association of India (OTOAI). This landmark agreement marks a pivotal step in strengthening tourism relations between the two countries. The signing ceremony, held during ITB India 2024, was attended by key representatives from both associations and underscored a mutual commitment to fostering tourism growth, exploring new opportunities, and establishing sustainable partnerships.

The success of the roadshow is reflected in the increasing number of Indian tourists visiting Iran. In 2023, Iran welcomed nearly 5.9 million international visitors, with over 58,000 from India—a 31% increase from the previous year.

This surge indicates a growing interest among Indian travelers in Iran’s unique offerings, from its ancient historical sites to its vibrant cultural experiences. Iran’s robust tourism infrastructure supports this growth, with 34 international airlines and 25 domestic carriers operating from 59 airports, including 11 international hubs. The country now boasts over 6,700 accommodation units, ranging from luxury hotels to eco-lodges, providing more than 300,000 beds for visitors.

As the roadshow concludes, the Iran Tourism Board remains optimistic about attracting more Indian tourists. With its unparalleled blend of historical grandeur, stunning landscapes, and renowned hospitality, Iran is well-positioned to welcome Indian travelers eager to explore its rich heritage and dynamic present..
