Sunday, November 10, 2024 Iran’s International Tourism Rally of the historical Spice Road began on November 6 in Chabahar, with participants setting out on a symbolic cross-country journey to promote peace and friendship. Featuring a convoy of camper vans, caravans, and travel motorcycles, the rally will traverse iconic Iranian cities and culminate at the Sulaymaniyah International Tourism Expo in Iraq on November 17. The event kicked off with a ceremonial send-off by local officials and auto-racing enthusiasts, marking the beginning of a route that will pass through Bam, Kerman, Yazd, Kashan, Qom, and Tehran.
The rally is expected to gain momentum as more participants join along the way from southern and western cities. After reaching Tehran, the route continues through Hamedan, Sanandaj, and Marivan, before crossing into Iraq via the Bashmaq border in Kordestan province. Iraqi officials, including the governor of Halabja, are expected to greet the participants with a ceremonial tribute to honor the victims of the 1988 Halabja and Sardasht chemical attacks.
Upon arrival in Sulaymaniyah on November 13, the rally vehicles will be showcased at Iran’s pavilion during the expo, from November 14 to 16. Organized by the Touring & Automobile Club of Iran, the pavilion will highlight Iran’s rich cultural heritage, health tourism, natural attractions, and provide customs pass services for foreign visitors.
