Sunday, January 26, 2025 Iran resumes flights to Europe as Iran Airtour Airlines and Qeshm Air lead efforts, overcoming EU sanctions through diplomatic and aviation initiatives. Iran Airtour Airlines, a private airline in Iran, has announced plans to resume its operations on a key route connecting Iran to Europe. In addition, Qeshm Air is preparing to expand its services to more European destinations, signaling a step forward in restoring Iran’s international air travel connections.

The suspension of flights between Iran and Europe, which began in October 2024, followed the imposition of EU sanctions. These sanctions were based on accusations that Iran supplied drones to Russia during the Ukraine war, allegations that Tehran has consistently and strongly denied. Pourfarzaneh, a prominent figure in Iranian aviation, criticized the sanctions as “unprofessional and cruel.

” He emphasized that the resumption of flights is a result of extensive diplomatic efforts led by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, along with aviation authorities, to prioritize critical public health and medical transportation needs. Despite progress in restoring some routes, flights between Iran and London remain suspended. Officials have acknowledged the significance of this connection and are working diligently to address the challenges preventing its reinstatement.

Efforts to normalize air travel between Iran and Europe are ongoing, reflecting a broader strategy to rebuild relations and facilitate travel.
