Photo: Contributed The grand prize of the Glenna Hoggarth Memorial Car Raffle is on display now until the end of the Interior Provincial Exhibition in Armstrong on Sunday. And that grand prize is an absolute beauty. Those who attend the IPE will be able to put their eyes on the 1976 Corvette Stingray that will be given to the lucky winner on Oct.

13 by Armstrong Kin Club. This is your last best chance to see the gorgeous ride the Hoggarth family restored in honour of Glenna, who was taken by breast cancer in 2019. The car will be parked outside of the curling club until the IPE’s conclusion on Sunday, and paper tickets will be available for sale.

“There is a lot of love for the car,” Armstrong Kin Club past president Jim Martin says. “We’ve got lots of positive comments.” Not only did the Hoggarths restore the Corvette along with family friend Ron Welch, but they have been hauling it all over the province in an effort to raise as much money as possible.

The main beneficiary will be the BC Cancer Foundation. Armstrong Kin Club will spread the rest of the proceeds throughout the community. Photo: Contributed The club is also conducting a 50/50 draw in conjunction with the car raffle, and the total has already surpassed the $76,000 mark.

That is a good sign it will reach its $96,000 maximum and result in someone pocketing $48,000 when their lucky number is pulled. The Stingray’s official colour is Kandy Brandywine from House of Colours Paint, meaning the shade changes from black to burgundy to a vibrant red depending on the angle of the sun. Its interior has also been completely refurbished, featuring a brand new upholstery kit, carpets, centre console dash pad and headliners.

The in-dash stereo is a replica that matches the original style but updated with an auxiliary port that allows the driver to plug in their phone. Over the course of two years, the L48 engine was completely rebuilt and upgraded, fitted with a stock camshaft, oil pump, water pump, distributor and rebuilt alternator with new exhaust manifolds including a dual exhaust system. The car’s underside has been modernized as well, with all the bushings in the suspension and body mounts having been replaced with high performance urethane components.

Raffle tickets are available online and in paper form through Martin at Armstrong Kin RV Park, which is located at 3311 Park Dr. Armstrong Kin Club donates to a variety of organizations and programs, including Cystic Fibrosis Care BC, Kinsmen Foundation, search and rescue organizations, and Vernon Jubilee Hospital. It also supports bursaries for high school students and the local food bank, and it covers costs that allow for free skating over Christmas at NorVal Arena.

“We try to keep our money—as much as we can—all in B.C.,” Martin says.
