IOWA CITY — The Iowa women’s basketball team unofficially tipped off the 2024-25 season last week with a 110-55 win over Missouri Western in a preseason exhibition on Wednesday. One week following the preseason romp, the Hawkeyes begin the 2024-25 season, the first under new head coach Jan Jensen, in earnest on Wednesday with a season-opening matchup against Northern Illinois at 6:30 p.m.

“To every coach in the country, it is such a fun Monday because it is here and it’s the official, official season,” Jensen said. “Everybody that is into women’s basketball probably has an eye on the scores, SportsCenter and watching, but I am going to be watching our team.” According to Jensen, a different feeling surrounded the team, which started practice shortly after her press conference.

“(It is) 48 hours really before we go,” Jensen said. “No matter what role I have, there is always a different feel on that first official week of opening days.” Jensen added that a palpable excitement started to show itself recently as the Hawkeyes prepare for the regular season.
