Friday, November 29, 2024 Peter Uihlein is in prime position to claim his second International Series title after seizing the third-round lead at the US$2.5 million International Series Qatar today. The American golfer closed with a flourish, birdieing the final two holes at Doha Golf Club to finish with a one-under-par 71, putting him one shot ahead of fellow countryman Zach Bauchou.
Bauchou, who carded a 70, trails Uihlein by just one stroke, while Italian Stefano Mazzoli sits three shots back in third place after his ace on the par-three 17th helped him to a 69. India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar is also in the mix, finishing with a solid 69 to stay within striking distance. Uihlein, who was recently on the verge of his second win in the International Series at Thailand, has experienced both triumph and heartbreak in recent months.
He came close to winning in Thailand but ultimately finished runner-up, surrendering a two-shot lead on the final hole to Lee Chieh-po of Chinese Taipei. However, Uihlein’s victory at the International Series England earlier this year marked his first title on both the Asian Tour and the International Series, a breakthrough he’s eager to build on. The day started with Uihlein holding a two-shot advantage over Bauchou, and he maintained that cushion at the turn.
Despite a tough, windy day at Doha Golf Club, with firm greens and tricky conditions, Uihlein managed to capitalize on the few birdie opportunities available. He bogeyed the third and the 14.
