In a major move to boost India’s hospitality industry and elevate the standard of hospitality education, the International Institute of Hotel Management (IIHM) has joined forces with Speciality by signing a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at IIHM’s esteemed Global Campus in Salt Lake, Kolkata. This groundbreaking collaboration unites one of India’s most renowned restaurant companies with the largest global brand in hospitality education.

The partnership is set to benefit both hospitality students and the industry by focusing on advancing education, enhancing training, and strengthening industry partnerships, all aimed at developing top-tier hospitality professionals in the country. Following a warm reception by the IIHM leadership team at Bacchus, the institute’s exclusive VIP Lounge, the Speciality Restaurants leadership team was ushered to the David Foskett Auditorium for the formal signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement was signed by Dr.



Suborno Bose, Chairman and Chief Mentor of IIHM, and Mr. Debashish Ghosh, General Manager – Brand Standards and Guest Relations at Speciality Restaurants, marking a key milestone in their collaboration. Dr.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which took effect immediately, formalized the partnership between IIHM and Speciality Restaurants, underscoring their mutual dedication to enriching educational opportunities for students and fostering valuable collaborations within the hospitality industry.

Key aspects of the MoU include: Background: The partnership aims to promote a long-term collaboration in higher education, particularly focused on improving the learning experience for students pursuing Hospitality Management. It seeks to develop highly skilled Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council (THSC) 1-Year Certificate holders who are ready for employment. Speciality Restaurants’ Role and Responsibility: Speciality Restaurants will contribute significantly by providing inputs for curriculum development, arranging industrial training, organizing guest lectures, facilitating faculty development programs, offering student placement opportunities, and granting operational exposure.

IIHM’s Role and Responsibility: IIHM will manage student selection, provide dedicated classroom space, and conduct a comprehensive 1-year course that includes both industrial training and exams. Program Management and Quality Assurance: Speciality Restaurants will provide essential materials for the designated classrooms, and both organizations will appoint representatives to oversee the implementation and success of the MoU. Student Placement in India: Speciality Restaurants will offer employment opportunities at entry-level positions in India to IIHM students admitted through this MoU, subject to final selection by the authorized Selection Panel.

This collaboration between IIHM and Speciality Restaurants promises to bring new opportunities for hospitality students while significantly contributing to the advancement of India’s hospitality and tourism sectors through education, skill development, and industry engagement.
