LYING on a chair in the centre of a clinic, a woman has a metal rod rammed into her neck as blood leaks from the incision. It drips out along with fat, which is then allegedly poured down a sink when a suction machine is emptied. But this is not the start of a gory horror film — it is the scene in a high street aesthetics parlour.

Daria Wisniewska and Monika Wisniewska-Truchan are carrying out what they call “liporeduction” — taking fat out the body — with equipment that looks very like kit normally used to remove earwax and phlegm. The pair, who own Luxury Medical Aesthetics, have no apparent record of proper medical training. But they are about to set off on a nationwide tour performing liquid Brazilian butt lifts and breast fillers.
