Arguably one of the most serene getaways in the country, Calabash Bay Lodge is perched on the banks of the Hawkesbury River - and while it's less than one hour from Sydney, it feels a world away. Just like many of the enviable homes scattered along Italy's Lake Como, Calabash is accessible only by boat or seaplane and sits on an idyllic tributary of the Hawkesbury River called Berowra Creek. It's 32km inland from where the main river meets the ocean, making the four-bedroom lodge one of the most private and rejuvenating spots in the area.
The home was purchased by Wild Luxury owners Kim and Derek Ellis in 2007, after being purpose built as a guest house before being converted to a private residence. It then underwent extensive refurbishment in 2020 where the couple worked with some of the nation's best-known architects, designers and artists to create something truly special. And boy did they ever.
Accommodating eight guests across four slick water-facing bedrooms, the home boasts three levels, an entertainer's dream kitchen, a rooftop wellness studio with yoga mats and all the extra little luxuries you can think of (think day beds, water toys, BBQs and sparkling water on tap).
