Vibrant shades and bold prints are abundant in rug designer Wendy Morrison's home. For those who have seen her luxury creations, this won't come as a surprise. After graduating from the Scottish College of Textiles in 1994, Morrison, now 52, got a placement at Marks & Spencer in Nottingham.

'I was designing outerwear – mostly Gore-Tex clothing. It was very technical and not at all glamorous, but it was a really good foundation for pattern-making,' she says. THE LIVING ROOM Wendy's Zebra Leopard Palms hand-knotted rug (300cm x 220cm, £10,000) is a standout feature.
