And it also means a record has been broken for the biggest distance between a medal competition and the host city of the competition, with it taking at least 21 hours to fly from Paris to the village of Teahupo'o, where Aranui 5 and the athletes aboard will be stationed. The luxury cruiser features a library, a gym, a spa, a sky bar and even a dancing room.

And the reason the surfers will be heading out to Tahiti is due to Teahupo'o having won the rights to host the Olympic surfing prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. The village hosts a stop on the World Surf League circuit and was one of five sites under French jurisdiction to apply to host the surfing with Biarritz, Lancanau, Les Landes and La Torche all applying alongside Teahupo'o. Aboard the ship alongside the crew will be 48 surfers.

While the Olympians competing in Paris will have to sleep in dorm-style rooms on their recyclable cardboard beds, the surfers will be enjoying life in their own private room - complete most importantly with a regular bed. And the total of 48 is also dwarfed massively by just how many people will be packed into the Paris Olympic Village, which spans three parts of the French capital: Saint-Denis, Saint Ouen and L'Ile-Saint-Denis. The Paris village will host 15,000 people, with 10,500 of that 15,000 being athletes from all across the globe.

It cost roughly around a whopping £1.7bn..
