S weeping views of the glorious British countryside, sublime food and interiors fit for the finest boutique hotel. A new, opulent way to travel around the UK will chug into service next year, transporting passengers around the country in serious style. The Britannic Explorer is due to ­enter service next July, a 12 of Europe’s most exciting sleeper train with three and six-night itineraries taking in the best of England and Wales.

It is, however, an experience that doesn’t come cheap. Journeys on the Britannic Explorer start from £11,000, based on a double cabin, to include a three-night itinerary, excursions, meals, wine and alcoholic beverages on board. The train joins Belmond, the luxury rail heritage company that already operates six of the world’s most opulent trains, including the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express , the Andean Explorer, the Eastern & Oriental Express, Royal Scotsman and the British Pullman.
