The Zone 17 of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Ondo State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has received three drones and their appliances from Boing Luxury Estates to help in tackling crime in the zone. The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in the Zone comprising Ondo and Ekiti States Police Commands, Mr Abiodun Asabi, received the drones from the Managing Director of the Group, Mr Ory Martins Akinseloyin, on Monday. Speaking after the donation of the said crime-fighting equipment, Akinseloyin said fighting crimes should be everybody’s concern.

He said the three drones are to be shared among Ekiti and Ondo State Police Commands and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps( NSCDC) in Ondo State. Akinseloyin, who stated that the company felt there was a need to give to society as the company was marking its 10th anniversary, saw the need to lend the government a helping hand in tackling insecurity, as it has become a major challenge in the country. According to to him “We believe in giving back to the society that has done so much for us as we are marking our 10th anniversary.

“This is a way of helping the security agencies in the modern and recent ways of fighting crime. This is our corporate social responsibility.” Akinseloyin said the security situation in the country was alarming, hence the need for everybody to play their little role in supporting security agencies in the country.

The donor asked well-to-do individuals in the zone, to contribute their quotas and make the zone safe for all. He said it is the use of technology and ICT that is helping other countries in tackling insecurity. His words “In this contemporary time, policing has gone beyond relying on manpower and AK 47.

We have enough AK-47 rifles, but we cannot fight crime. So there is a need to make use of modern technology as it’s the trend.” He said that the company was ready to train six personnel from police and NSCDC on logistics and required information on how the Drones could be optimally utilized.

“I want to assure you that we are not just giving drones, we are giving much more than that. I am advising Ekiti, Ondo police, and NSCDC in Ondo to nominate two officers with basic ICT knowledge. In two days, they will be able to fly these Drones, capture and interpret images, process images, and other necessary things accordingly,”’ he said.

Akinseloyin added that after six months, if the drones were being used judiciously, the company would provide more, stating that each division of the police in the zone and each patrol van for distress calls should have security drones. He noted that it was disheartening to hear about the killing of security officers through the laying of ambush when security Drones could deployed to detect criminals’ hideouts. The donor said that Nigerian police personnel were capable and able to fight crimes if provided with needed modern logistics and support.

Asabi described the donation as a groundbreaking event on the security of lives and properties in the zone. He said the donor has deemed it fit to collaborate with security agencies to ensure that our zeal for crime-fighting is encouraged and results are achieved. The Police boss said, “The two states in the zone are doing so much, and we just have to deploy these Drones to ensure that we are on top of security so that residents of these states are better protected,” he said.

Also, the Senior Special Assistant on Security to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Mr Olugbenga Atiba, appreciated the donor for the gesture, saying that it would go a long way to support the State government in its avowed determination to rid the State of criminal, miscreants and criminals. The NSCDC Commandant in Ondo State, Mr Oluyemi Ibiloye, said, it was essential for security agencies to deploy technology in enhancing security in the state. Ibiloye added that with the deployment of drones, few personnel could be used in fighting crimes with great results.

He said that the gesture would reduce the rate of theft and kidnapping in the zone..
