Monday, January 6, 2025 IndiGo Airlines accelerates global expansion with plans to wet-lease Boeing 787-9s and fast-track Airbus A350-900 rollout, enhancing international reach. IndiGo Airlines plans to wet-lease six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners from Norse Atlantic Airways in 2025, while also negotiating with Airbus to expedite the delivery of its first A350-900 aircraft. These moves aim to fast-track the airline’s entry into the long-haul market.

According to The Economic Times , the initial two Boeing 787-9s are expected to join IndiGo’s operations by February 2025, with the remaining four arriving by September 2025. These widebody aircraft will enable IndiGo to launch its first long-haul routes, with Europe—specifically London and Paris—highlighted as likely initial destinations. Currently, IndiGo Airlines does not operate any widebody aircraft in its own fleet.



It has, however, wet-leased two Boeing 777-300ERs from Turkish Airlines, which are used exclusively on routes connecting Mumbai and Delhi to Istanbul Airport. Neither IndiGo Airlines nor Norse Atlantic Airways provided comments on the arrangement. However, Norse Atlantic recently revealed plans to lease six of its Boeing 787-9s to an undisclosed “reputable international airline,” emphasizing its focus on increasing ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) contract revenues.
