Tuesday, October 22, 2024 India’s wedding tourism is set for major growth, fueled by PM Modi’s initiatives and PHDCCI efforts, with millions expected to marry in the coming years. India is set to experience a surge in wedding tourism thanks to the initiatives spearheaded by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Over the last few years, an estimated 25-30 crore people have risen from poverty to the middle class in India.

According to Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Hon’ble Minister of Tourism and Culture, this economic shift coupled with India’s young population has created a tremendous opportunity for the wedding industry. With around 54% of the population under the age of 30, a significant portion of household income is spent on weddings. Furthermore, with about 68 crore people aged 25 and under, India is poised to witness a boom in the wedding industry as millions prepare to get married in the coming years.

This growing trend was highlighted by Shekhawat during his address at the 1st Wedding Tourism Summit & Expo organized by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), which took place from October 18-19, 2024. Shekhawat praised the efforts of the PHDCCI and congratulated Mr. Hemant Jain on his new role as the president.

He emphasized that India holds great potential in both the tourism and wedding industries, which are rapidly becoming key drivers of the nation’s economy. Although India currently ranks 24th in the global tourism index, Shekhawat explained.
