Monday, September 9, 2024 India offers diverse travel experiences, from serene beaches to epic mountains, with Ajeet Bajaj championing sustainable tourism to unlock its adventure potential. India is a haven for travelers, offering a vast array of destinations that range from peaceful beaches and towering snow-capped peaks to tranquil backwaters and lively party hubs. The country’s diversity caters to all kinds of visitors, whether they’re in search of spiritual journeys, inner tranquility, or a leisurely escape.

Recognized by the World Economic Forum for its abundant natural heritage, ranking 10th globally, India holds immense promise for developing new travel experiences focused on nature and adventure, a point underscored by Padma Shri awardee Ajeet Bajaj. Honored in 2012 for his contributions to adventure sports, Bajaj has consistently highlighted the importance of sustainable tourism that safeguards India’s natural environment. He advocates for enhancing adventure and nature-based travel, especially for India’s younger generation, emphasizing that these tourism forms are essential for unlocking the potential of the country’s varied landscapes, including its majestic Himalayas, sprawling deserts, and pristine islands.

Bajaj stressed that with 73% of the Himalayan range and more than 7,000 kilometers of coastline, India must promote eco-friendly tourism practices while avoiding over-tourism. He emphasized the importance of educating travelers about responsible behavior to protect the environment. Additionally, he announced two significant trekking routes: one from Jammu to Uttarakhand via Ladakh and another from Gaumukh to Gangasagar, offering long-distance treks with homestay accommodations.

The adventure tourism sector is also working to develop border tourism, aimed at boosting the economies of underdeveloped regions. Bajaj revealed seven pilot projects are underway in places like Arunachal Pradesh, the India-Nepal-China trijunction, and Ladakh, intending to attract motorcyclists and adventure enthusiasts to these scenic, less-traveled locations. These initiatives aim to enhance infrastructure and open up tourism opportunities in India’s lesser-known regions.
