India's Virat Kohli has lost his cool with spectators after he was taunted on his way back to the tunnel following his dismissal on day two of the Boxing Day Test. Kohli was given a frosty reception from the home crowd all day, following an incident on Thursday where he collided with rookie Australian batsman Sam Konstas, 19, who was at the crease on debut. With India batting well as they began chasing Australia's first innings total of 474, Kohli built up a positive partnership with young Yashasvi Jaiswal, getting their side's total to 2/153 towards the end of the second day on Friday.
After a Scott Boland delivery, Kohli stayed at his crease while Jaiswal ran for a quick single, leaving the 22-year-old to be run out following the embarrassing mix-up. Just one over later, Kohli was next to depart when he edged a Boland delivery behind which was caught by wicket-keeper Alex Carey. As the former Indian captain walked up the tunnel, he was met with taunting and a chorus of boos from the crowd in response to his run-in with Konstas.
In the footage of the incident, one particular remark drew the ire of Kohli who stopped and walked back to address the fan. It is not clear what the supporter said that angered the 36-year-old. An International Cricket Council (ICC) official then helped guide an agitated Kohli back down the sheds as he continued to look back in the direction where he heard taunts.
Kohli has had a mixed 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy so far, with an average of 32.40 a.
