Wednesday, November 6, 2024 In the second quarter of 2024, Indian airlines have continued to dominate the international air travel scene, accounting for nearly 45.6% of the total international traffic to and from India. This represents a significant rise from the 44% share observed in 2023 and a notable increase from the pre-pandemic figure of just 34.

Surge in International Air Traffic and Fleet Expansion The 2024 figures reveal that international air traffic in India has risen by 13.5% compared to pre-pandemic levels.

This surge can be attributed to the increasing demand for both inbound and outbound international travel. To accommodate this growth, Indian carriers, particularly Air India and IndiGo, have been actively expanding their fleets. In fact, IndiGo made headlines by placing its first-ever order for widebody aircraft earlier this year, signaling its intent to extend its services to long-haul destinations.

Such fleet expansions reflect a broader trend in the aviation industry to meet the growing global demand, especially from emerging markets like India. As India becomes a more significant player in the international travel marke.
