1 2 Vadodara: India cricketer Radha Yadav faced a terrifying 48 hours as she found herself stranded in her home, surrounded by floodwaters in the Harni area of the city. With dwindling supplies of food and drinking water, Yadav, a member of the T20 World Cup squad, was eventually rescued by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation ( VMC ) and the fire brigade from her residence at Aranya Apartment on Wednesday evening. Yadav, along with a few others, was taken to safety in a boat.

“It was a scary experience. I hadn’t anticipated the floodwaters to be so intense. This is the first time I’ve witnessed such a situation around my home.

Thankfully, the VMC and fire brigade team came to our rescue,” Yadav told TOI. The 24-year-old all-rounder recounted that she had arrived in the city from Mumbai with her parents on August 25. “The next day, the rain started pouring heavily.

Initially, I thought it was just temporary waterlogging and expected things to normalize in a few hours. Our neighbors also believed the situation wouldn’t worsen. But the water level kept rising around our apartment.

The power went out, and we didn’t have enough food stored,” Yadav recalled. As the situation worsened, Yadav grew increasingly worried, especially with her parents also trapped in the house. “I learned that the entire city was flooded, and we might be stranded for several days.

I managed to contact my uncle, who lives in the city, and asked for help,” Yadav added. Her uncle Milind Varavdekar, along with his friend Kishor Relvani, quickly came to her aid. Braving the flooded roads on Wednesday evening, they reached Yadav’s apartment, which was submerged under four to five feet of water.

“The VMC and fire brigade team brought boats and food supplies. I was immensely relieved when we were safely evacuated,” she said. Yadav is currently staying with her uncle.

“I can’t afford to miss my daily workouts and practice, so the thought of being stranded for several days was worrying. I’ve been selected for the World Cup, and I need to stay focused on my game,” Yadav shared. The young cricketer She however, lamented the loss of her SUV and two two-wheelers, which were submerged in the floodwaters.

'Thank you so much VMSS and Vadodara fire brigade for helping us with food and supplies. Where nobody was able to come here, these guys helped us with everything. Thank you so much' her Instagram story read.
