This growing trend is largely fueled by grand religious events such as the Mahakumbh and other significant festivals, which attract millions of visitors annually.

Recent data reveals that nearly 48% of all spiritual travel visa applications are linked to major events and pilgrimages, including the Maha Kumbh. As one of the largest religious gatherings globally, the Maha Kumbh—which takes place once every 144 years—is currently underway and is expected to welcome an astounding 42 million devotees. This unparalleled event offers a unique chance for both domestic and international travelers to immerse themselves in India’s rich spiritual traditions.



Spiritual tourism has also seen a dramatic rise among travelers from nations like the US and the UK, as more individuals seek transformative, authentic experiences. Notably, millennial women are at the forefront of this trend, accounting for 66% of spiritual travelers in this demographic. The younger generation’s growing preference for meaningful, introspective vacations over conventional tourism signifies a significant shift in travel preferences.

Another emerging aspect of spiritual tourism is the increasing popularity of group travel. Applications for group pilgrimages have risen by 35%, as travelers find value in connecting with like-m.
