Pune: A 30-year-old man, operating an academy in Indapur to train students for the police recruitment exam, succumbed on Friday to bullet injuries he sustained in a firing by another person from his village on Sept 30 over previous enmity. The assailant fired four rounds at the victim, Rahul Chavan , from a country-made pistol and all the bullets hit his back. Chavan was admitted to a hospital in Pune.
"Within two hours, we arrested the assailant Sonya alias Dheeraj Chormale. We have recovered a country-made pistol from him. We also arrested three more suspects, Abhijeet Chormale, Kshitij Chormale and Prakash Shinde.
Five others are on the run," inspector Suryakant Kokane of the Indapur police said. He added that the victim, Chavan, and the suspects are from Shirsodi village in Indapur taluka. "They had a dispute over village politics.
About two years ago, Chavan had lodged a police complaint against six of the suspects," Kokane said. The officer said Chavan lodged a complaint around 1.30pm on Sept 30 that the suspects Abhijeet Chormale and Dheeraj Chormale had abused him for not withdrawing his case against them.
"Chavan had stated the duo threatened him that they would meet him again in the evening," Kokane said. When Chavan was returning home after a training session of students in his academy, the three suspects, including Abhijit Chormale, stopped him and started abusing him. The others were standing by the other side of the road.
