Friday, August 9, 2024 The “Immersive Hong Kong” roving exhibition made its debut in Guangzhou today, marking the fourth stop in its journey across Asia. Following successful showcases in Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia, the exhibition continues its mission to highlight Hong Kong’s dynamic appeal to the global community. This event, organized by the Information Services Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, with the support of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong (GDETO), is a key element of a broader promotional campaign.

The Guangzhou exhibition is designed to spotlight Hong Kong’s latest attractions, its competitive advantages, and the myriad opportunities it offers. Under the theme “Hong Kong – Where the World Looks Ahead,” the exhibition invites residents of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) to delve into the city’s rich offerings in tourism, education, business, and investment. This event aims to strengthen ties within the GBA and showcase Hong Kong as a forward-looking hub of innovation and growth.

The “Immersive Hong Kong” exhibition invites visitors to experience the city in a whole new way through cutting-edge interactive art technology. This exhibition transports attendees into various virtual scenes that creatively capture the essence of Hong Kong, offering a fresh and engaging perspective of the city. The exhibition is divided into five thematic zones: “Financial Bridgehead,” “I&T Brain Bank,” “Blossoming Creativity,” “Diversity and Greenery,” and “Buzzing Sports Action.

” Each zone is equipped with a variety of interactive art projections, light box installations, and naked-eye 3D displays, all designed to showcase Hong Kong’s diverse attractions and strengths. A highlight of the exhibition is a photo corner featuring a vibrant and colorful representation of Hong Kong’s iconic skyline, brought to life by the talented Hong Kong artist Messy Desk (Jane Lee). In addition to this, visitors can explore promotional videos and digital panels that provide insights from Mainland companies about their positive experiences in Hong Kong, reinforcing why the city remains a top destination for tourism, living, work, and investment.

During today’s opening ceremony, Mrs. Apollonia Liu, Director of Information Services, highlighted the significance of launching the “Immersive Hong Kong” exhibition on the Mainland, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. She emphasized that this exhibition offers a unique opportunity to showcase the latest developments in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to Mainland visitors.

Mrs. Liu also noted that this year marks the fifth anniversary of the promulgation of the Outline Development Plan for the Greater Bay Area (GBA). With both Hong Kong and Guangzhou serving as core cities within the GBA, Guangzhou is an ideal location for this exhibition, further strengthening the ties between these two vibrant metropolises.

She said , “Sharing common historic roots and origins, Hong Kong and Guangdong have been working closely in promoting the development of the GBA, which has many opportunities to offer. We hope that through this exhibition, we can demonstrate, in a lively and interactive way, Hong Kong’s distinctive advantages of enjoying strong support of the motherland and being closely connected to the world. We also hope everyone will come to Hong Kong for tourism, study, business or investment, and make use of Hong Kong’s international platform to tap into overseas markets and develop their businesses.

” Mrs. Liu expressed her enthusiasm for the “Immersive Hong Kong” exhibition, hoping it would take visitors on an exciting journey through various virtual scenes that capture the essence of Hong Kong. She noted that the exhibition not only highlights the city’s unique cosmopolitan attractions, advantages, and opportunities but also showcases its vibrant creativity and distinctive character.

A standout feature this year is the newly introduced “Buzzing Sports Action” zone. With Hong Kong athletes achieving remarkable success at the Paris Olympic Games and the upcoming 15th National Games—co-hosted by Hong Kong, Guangdong, and Macao—this zone adds a fresh dimension to the exhibition. The sports-themed zone also serves as a prelude to the National Games, generating excitement and awareness for the upcoming event.

The Director of the GDETO, Miss Linda So, stated, “In the five years since the promulgation of the Outline Development Plan for the GBA, the connectivity and integration between Hong Kong and the other cities of the GBA have covered various policy areas and reached an unprecedented high level. The GDETO will continue to serve as a bridge, promoting exchange and co-operation with the local governments, industry, and citizens in the GBA. We will also, through various activities, tell the Mainland communities good stories of Hong Kong and help them better understand the development opportunities and uniqueness of Hong Kong.

” As part of the “Immersive Hong Kong” exhibition, an interactive game titled “Snap a Cool Shot @Immersive Hong Kong” has been introduced to encourage more visitors to explore Hong Kong and participate in its vibrant mega events. Participants in the game have the chance to win exciting prizes, with 50 lucky winners each receiving a complimentary set of an admission ticket and a tasting pass for the upcoming “Hong Kong Wine and Dine Festival 2024,” scheduled for October. These prizes are generously sponsored by the Hong Kong Tourism Board.

The exhibition is being hosted at OneLink Walk, a popular shopping center in Guangzhou, and will run until August 18, 2024. Admission is free, and visitors can enjoy various souvenirs as part of the event experience..
