KOCHI: Actress Manju Warrier condoled the death of veteran actress Kaviyoor Ponnamma in a Facebook post, now going viral across social media. “ I am one among the rare breed of Malayalam film industry actors, who came in the 90s and failed to get a role as Ponnamma’s daughter. .

..” the Facebook post went on.

Manju Warrier: “This thought often leaves me sad. Never did I receive a chance to act as Ponnamma Chechi’s daughter in my film career. I don’t have any memory of us working together in movies, but we happened to meet on many other occasions.

From there, I received the motherly love that people boast about her. She is special. I had the luck to share the screen with her sister Kaviyoor Renuka in the movie ‘Kannezhuthi Pottum Thottu’.

In many angles, Renuka Chechi reminds me of Kaviyoor Ponnamma. Even during my childhood days, I remember watching Kaviyoor Ponnamma play mother roles in movies. It is the beauty of her acting that makes viewers yearn for such a mother in their lives too.

While watching her performance, it feels like she is the quotidian mother we all see in our households. Such was the natural charm she possessed. With her demise, it is curtains to an era, that included Sukumariamma, Meenachechi, Srividyamma, and KPAC Lalithachechi.

...

. When mothers pass away, children become orphans. Malayalam film industry’s mother is gone and we are orphans now.
