It feels criminal to be talking about autumn styling when summer is still hanging on by a thread. But as a fashion writer who’s frequently haunted by the clothes I didn’t buy, I know all too well that the best pieces sell out fast. I’ve noticed a number of pieces cropping up on the high street ahead of the cooler temperatures.

But there’s one piece in particular I think is going to be the ‘it’ jacket of the season . Marks and Spencer launched their Faux Leather Aged Bomber Jacket in July and I wasn’t going to be burned again by waiting a few weeks to snap it up. Instead, I added it to my basket and checked out immediately.

It boasts a regular-fit design with neat ribbed trims, complete with a silver metallic zip front fastening to give it a bit of an edge. Designed for year-round styling, it’s slightly wadded providing enough warmth to transition effortlessly from summer to winter.

The jacket features two front pockets and an internal pocket, while the timeless cut will mean it will be a mainstay in your wardrobe for years to come. I ordered mine online and couldn’t have been more impressed with it. The fit is spot on, the feel is luxurious, and it looks way more expensive than its price tag suggests.

The material convincingly mimics real leather, and the lightly quilted lining adds just the right amount of warmth without bulk. The jacket's design is particularly flattering, with the welt resting high and neat above the back while the front zip part remains lower, avoiding the boxy look that can be unflattering. As a result, it’s earned nothing but five star reviews from fans who have jumped on the jacket early.

One said: “Beautiful jacket, exactly what I was looking for. Will go from summer to winter perfectly.” Another added: “Have been looking for a leather bomber jacket for ages and this one is exactly what I was looking for.

Great fit, feel and good quality- love it.” “Lovely versatile jacket, a wardrobe staple,” wrote a third. “Lovely material and will work for all seasons.

Great value for money. Great sizing too.” With a fourth penning: “The quality and colour of the faux leather makes this Jacket look so much more expensive.

I absolutely love it.” I think it’s a style we’re going to be seeing a lot of in the coming months, with plenty of similar styles on the high street, including this BDG Perrie Faux Leather Bomber Jacket at Urban Outfitters for £79 - or this Boohoo Vintage Look Faux Leather Oversized Cropped Bomber Jacket that’s £37.50 down from £50.

But what I love most about the M&S jacket is its versatility. Whether you're dressing up for a night out or aiming for a casual street style look, this bomber jacket delivers every single time without fail. Available in sizes 6-24, I don’t think it’s going to be around for long, so if you want to get your hands on it, I’d do so sooner rather than later - or forever hold your peace.
