When you've got a party or a night out planned and you really want to look and feel your best, there's nothing better than stepping out with a fresh bronzed glow - which is where fake tan can come in very handy. Many people opt for the gradual kind, applying a layer before bed so that you wake up looking sun-kissed. And if you've left it too late, there's also the option of an express tan, which does the job much quicker.

But one downside to this beauty product is the orange marks it can leave on your clothes, which are notorious for sticking around no matter how many times you wash them. Thankfully, one beauty expert says there's a simple way to prevent this from happening. Melanie Brownlow, founder of popular tanning brand St.

Moriz , has shared her valuable expertise for preventing fake tan stains on clothes - and one foolproof method involves using another beauty product that you've probably already got at home. READ MORE: ‘This tan remover saved my fake tan disaster in under 60 seconds – I won’t be without it now’ She recommends packing a tin of Vaseline in your bag on any night out, as this can come in really handy when it comes to keeping your clothes free of stains. The pro said: "If any clothing starts to rub, you can apply this.

This will create a barrier between the skin and clothing meaning your tan is less likely to be removed by any friction." You can also take a couple of extra steps during your getting-ready routine if you want to ensure you won't get any irritating fake tan marks on your clothes - which are notorious for staining. Melanie suggested: “One hack for avoiding self tan stains on clothes is using exfoliating pads in circular motions in the build up areas after application.

“If you’re heading on an evening out, and have applied your full tan a few days earlier then topping up with an illuminating oil on any areas that will be on show, like your chest or legs, will not only rule out having to go through the full application process again, but will also dry quickly, avoiding any transfer onto clothing. And if you've woken up the morning after a night out, only to find your bedsheets have become covered in fake tan residue, don't panic - as there's a simple way to tackle these stains. Melanie said: “Self tan can often easily be removed from bedding.

Wash your cotton sheets in a 60 degree wash, or as hot a wash as the care label allows if the stain persists. Soak any more stubborn stains on white cotton bedding in a pre-wash stain removal solution before washing as normal. “For an easy home remedy solution for self tan stains, mix baking soda and water into a paste, apply it to the stain and let it sit for a few minutes.

Then gently rub the stain with a soft brush and rinse with cold water.” If you want ideas and inspiration to plan your next UK adventure plus selected offers and competitions, sign up for our 2Chill weekly newsletter here.
