WEDDINGS can be incredibly stressful because there is so much to plan and think about. From making sure all the suppliers arrive on time, to keeping bridesmaids , groomsmen and both sets of parents happy, it can start to feel overwhelming. And when you're the bride, you have even more on your mind, like making sure your dress is sitting perfectly and your hair stays in place.

One thing that's always brides always worry about is keeping on top of their make-up - after all, it needs to last all day and you want it to look amazing in the snaps. And with the wedding already costing a fortune, many grudge forking out for their make-up to be done professionally. Doing your own make-up on the big day could be the way forward - thanks to one expert sharing their top tips on how to make it look like it was done by a pro.

Make-up artist Wayne Goss has revealed his top five hacks that will not only give you an unforgettable look, but also keep costs down. Goss, who runs his own cosmetic site , often shares his tips with his four million YouTube followers. He said: "It can be a challenge deciding on whether to get a professional MUA or do your own make-up on your big day.

"However, with the right tips, DIY could be the best way forward at looking your best while still keeping costs down." According to Goss, less is more when it comes to your wedding make-up. He explains: "If you want to achieve a natural yet polished look for wedding photos, do remember to keep your make-up as natural as possible.

"The less make-up you apply, the more beautiful you'll look. "If you are looking for a long-wear product suggestion, my recommendation would be Doublewear from Estee Launder. "You don’t need much of it and it really will last all day.

” Making sure you wear the right colour is key - and stops you from having horrible make-up lines. Knowing the type of skin you have is important because the right make-up for your skin will make it look flawless. Goss says: “Try to tailor your make-up instead of the skin tone.

Make sure you're wearing the right undertone suited to your skin type. "For example, if your skin is oily, you might need a powdered foundation. "But if you have dry skin, then cream is likely more suitable for your skin.

” You might be tempted to re-apply and go over your make-up throughout the day to keep it fresh. But according to the experts, all you need for the whole day is some powder. They suggest: “If you look at someone face-on, the face should look matte.

"If you turn to the side, that’s when the highlight hits on the top of the cheekbone and brow bone which is really beautifully photographed. "Paying attention to the face-on being matte is critical. "While we all love shiny skin, but matte skin photographs much more beautifully front-on.

"And since you're going to be looking at these forever, you want your skin to look the best and that’s why it needs to be powdered.” JOSIE Griffiths, Deputy Editor at Fabulous, who is tying the knot this year, has shared her thoughts on wearing white to a wedding..

. Josie Griffiths said: I tend to consider myself pretty low maintenance from a fashion and beauty point of view. I can be out the door in 20 minutes in the morning, normally do my mascara on the bus or the Tube, and spend my work from home days in my gym gear.

But when it comes to my wedding this summer, that’s all gone out the window. Professional hair and makeup is booked for 8am, I’ve gone all out on my wedding dress, got designer shoes and even bought a second dress for the evening do. So when I think about someone wearing a white gown to my big day, yeah I think I’d be pretty mad.

The idea behind not wearing a white dress goes back to not wanting to ‘upstage the bride’. Which, to be fair, is unlikely. Not only has she possibly spent a small fortune on her look for the day, she’s also one of the only two people present who knows (and hopefully likes) all the guests.

So the main risk you’re taking is just making yourself look quite silly - and getting gossiped about by total strangers. A wedding guest I met in October 2022 still sticks out in my mind. I still don’t know what was worse - the fact she was so drunk she was crashing into people on the dance floor, or her decision to wear a white dress, which was arguably marginally improved by the glass of red wine she’d drunkenly tipped down herself.

I know weddings are expensive for everyone and it’s fair enough if you don’t want to buy a whole new outfit - I’m all for re-using what’s already in your wardrobe. Just avoid the white dress for the bride’s sake - and your own. The setting of your wedding can change throughout the day - from having your ceremony to having photos taken outside and then your reception inside in the evening when it gets darker.

So your make-up will likely need to be tweaked slightly throughout the day to match. Goss advises: "If you want to make sure the make-up complements different lighting conditions, from indoor ceremonies to outdoor receptions, natural makeup will look good in all lighting. "However, if you did want to apply a bit more, then you’ll be able to apply more make-up in the evening without looking over the top.

"More make-up will photograph more beautifully in the darker lighting, but you still want to keep it as natural as possible." Lastly, Goss explains that one product can stop you from looking like you have an oily face on your wedding day. He says: “Using an extremely thin coat of milk of magnesia on your wedding morning will help stop your face getting oily on your wedding day, or even combat tears if the day gets over emotional.

"Putting some under your make-up will ensure that your make-up lasts all day, as it’ll help absorb any oils on your face. "However, you don’t want to use this all the time – just on very special events such as your wedding as it could dry your skin out when overused.” You can pick up a bottle of milk of magnesia for just £5.
