A loved-up couple say they get vile comments from online trolls because of their 43-year age gap, but have the perfect response. Imani Cupe, 34, says she always knew she was going to end up with someone older than her. But she confesses 77-year-old Larry Scott is an age-gap far greater than she would have expected.
The couple met on a dating website after Larry’s “white hair intrigued” Imani. The pair have now been together for over nine years, getting engaged in 2023. Speaking on the Love Don’t Judge show , she explained: “I find older men more attractive in general.
I felt he was a pretty attractive older gentleman and then when I saw him in person, he did not disappoint.” Larry, from Maryland USA, says he “cannot imagine” his life without Imani. While the couple are planning their lives together, Imani says it’s “only natural” to worry about Larry ageing.
He explains: “When you're much younger you don't think about that far down the line but because I'm closer I think about it. So we openly discuss these things.” Imani says the biggest misconception the pair get is that she is only with Larry for money.
People instantly assume she is a “housewife type” and spends all day “cooking and cleaning” for Larry. He continues: “We pretty much just brush it off. When someone stares I give them a thumbs up and a ‘yeah, eat your heart out.
’” Imani adds: “I think the fact we get judged, has made us strong as a couple. Because it strengthened our communication and our bond.” The pair now say they have been accepted by their friends.
Although initially they admitted they were “curious” when they initially discovered Larry was dating a woman over four decades younger than him. Larry’s close friend Carolina adds: “It’s different when you hear about the age gap and then it’s very different when you live it. When you hear it, it might bring that little bit of curiosity on why they’re together.
“But when I go out to dinner with you and when we have travelled, I realise you guys don’t have an age gap. Because you get along so well.” Imani and Larry are now planning their wedding as well as their next travels around the world together.
