The rising cost of education in India has become a contentious issue, with a recent viral post by Jaipur resident Rishabh Jain bringing the topic to the forefront. Jain, an IIT Bombay alumnus and entrepreneur, highlighted the steep fees charged by premier schools in Jaipur, with one school demanding over Rs 4 lakh annually for a Class 1 student. His candid post, which resonated with thousands of parents online, criticized the unaffordability of quality education for middle-class families, even those with considerable incomes.

The post ignited widespread discussion, drawing attention to the financial strain on parents and the growing disparity in access to quality education. Jain explained that high-income taxpayers face significant deductions and essential living costs, leaving limited disposable income to cover exorbitant school fees.

"At 20L income you fall in the highest 30% + CESS tax bracket, do not qualify for government schemes, and do not receive any freebies or loan waivers like the rich," he wrote. "In the remaining Rs 10L, either you can have food, clothes, pay rent or EMIs, and save something, or you can pay scho.
