The IR issued a front-page notification on Nov. 2, alerting its readers that the "Flat Creek Bridge" was temporarily closed. Before readers rush to locate alternate routes, let's identify the "Flat Creek Bridge.
" It's located approximately 40 miles north of Helena, in Lewis & Clark County. More precisely: drive past Wolf Creek on I-15; take the off -ramp heading toward Augusta on Highway 287, till reaching Dearborn River. After crossing the River take the right-hand county road (gravel) heading north toward Simms.
Just after passing the majestic Birdtail Mountain on your right, you will reach the subject, the "Flat Creek" bridge, upstream from where Flat Creek empties into the Dearborn River. Once the "Flat Creek Bridge' has been reopened, enjoy a scenic drive: encompassing the historic Benton Road, and described by Meriwether Lewis (July 10, 1806) as "a level beautiful and extensive high plain covered with immense birds of buff aloes. I sincerely believe that there were not less than 10 thousand buff aloes within a circle of two miles.
