Tweet Facebook Mail A popular bakery chain best known for its layered strawberry-watermelon cake will close its Melbourne locations on Sunday. Black Star Pastry confirmed on social media it had made the "difficult decision" to close three stores in Melbourne's CBD, St Kilda and Chadstone after five years of operation. The eatery cited "rising costs", a "tough economic climate" and an "industry-wide staffing shortage" behind the closure.

(Black Star Bakery) "For five years, our team have poured their hearts, passion, and creativity into the making of each cake, pastry and coffee served across our stores," Black Star Pastry said. "Rising costs, a tough economic climate and an industry-wide staffing shortage have forced us to consolidate our team and we will shift our focus to our original home of Sydney.



" The iconic eatery thanked its loyal customers and staff. "We want to thank our loyal regulars, once-in-a-while visitors and all those who have supported us in the wonderful city of Melbourne," Black Star Pastry said. "We had a beautiful journey and many great friendships here and hope to see you one day, soon.

All Melbourne stores will be serving final slices until this Sunday. It will be business as usual for its Sydney stores, which will continue operating as normal.
