Derek Davis/Staff Photographer In one of Maine’s surest signs of spring, ice cream season is back, as Gifford’s Ice Cream and Lib’s Dairy Treats recently announced plans to reopen starting this week. The Gifford’s stand in Bangor will reopen on Friday .
Their Waterville stand is slated to open next the following Friday, March 21, followed by the Skowhegan stand on Friday, April 4. All three stands will be open every day from noon to 8:30 p.m.
The Waterville Gifford’s Ice Cream stand turns 35 years old this year, while Skowhegan hits the 45-year mark. Meanwhile, the owners of 56-year-old Lib’s Dairy Treats, a soft-serve landmark in Portland’s North Deering neighborhood, said they plan to open this Saturday, March 15. In South Portland, owners of 73-year-old Red’s Dairy Freeze said they will reopen their soft-serve operation “soon,” noting that they’ll announce the date on Facebook and Instagram.
