An armed guard assigned to tech tycoon Mike Lynch during his US trial has spoken of their unlikely friendship following the Bayesian superyacht tragedy. Rolo Igno said they became "like family" and he would look forward to coming on duty to guard him while Dr Lynch, 59, was under house arrest. The tech tycoon, from Suffolk, died this month along with his younger daughter, Hannah, when his yacht Bayesian capsized off the coast of Sicily.

Dr Lynch spoke fondly of his guards during an interview with the East Anglian Daily Times at the start of this month after he was cleared of all the fraud charges. They were assigned to him after his extradition to the US and spent the next 13 months with him. Dr Lynch previously said: "I had to have armed guards.



They were great - and they have become good friends - but it's a bit different having people with guns around. Some of these chaps were ex-Navy SEALs."
