As you enter Gather Café, you'll walk under a pair of rusty chandeliers. To your right, by one of the tables, is a old and faded map of the world, likely a bit out of date. The rusty chandeliers are a mission statement: this is a café that combines the old with the new, the trendy with the old-fashioned, the extravagant with the ramshackle.
As you continue into the café- painted white with sage accents - the endearing oddities keep coming. Woven-baskets hang from the ceiling, strung together by fairies lights. A old rocking horse rests under a shelf of sparkling chinaware.
One wall features a collection of different pieces of carved wood. Why? Why not! Perhaps they're make-shift stakes in case vampire patrons show up and don't tip. One particularly lush and lovely rectangular room is host to a number of indoor plants and woven wicca chairs, giving the space the feel of an atrium.
As for me, I took a seat in the corner under the gaze of a renaissance-style painting, right next to the white Romanesque column. Some cafes have table numbers, but tables at Gather can be identified by the closest curiosity. Are you meeting your friends for brunch under the aging world map or by the painting of water sprites? I was so caught up in the interior design it took me a minute to remember I was here for food.
When I looked at the menu, I was pleased to find out that breakfast is served all day, so at around 2:15pm I ordered a of overnight oats, fruit, yoghurt, granola, and compote fo.
