Dyson is known for its machines, whether it's the brand's best-selling vacuums or its award-winning, viral hair tools . Between the Dyson Airwrap , the wet-to-dry Airstrait , and the ultra-smart Nural Hair Dryer , it's a brand that provides solutions to everyday needs. With that, it should come as no surprise that the brand has decided to expand to styling products with the new Dyson Chitosan line.

Dyson's choice to launch hair products outside of the world of tools comes from a need expressed by its consumers. The Airwrap is a beloved, cult-favorite multi-styler, but a key complaint among users is the longevity of styles. Taking that feedback, the brand began working on the Chitosan collection of four pre-style formulations for all hair types : the Straight to Wavy Light Pre-Styling Cream ($60), the Straight to Wavy Rich Conditioning Pre-Styling Cream ($60), the Curly to Coily Light Pre-Styling Cream ($60), and the Curly to Coily Rich Conditioning Pre-Styling Cream ($60).

But that's not all — the new Chitosan collection also includes a Post-Style Serum ($60). I was lucky enough to test the entire line ahead of its launch to see just how well it improved the capabilities of the Airwrap. If you're curious about the performance of these new styling products, keep reading.

About the Dyson Chitosan Hair-Care Products What I Like About the Dyson Chitosan Hair-Care Products When the Dyson team told me the reason behind developing these new hairstyling products, it immediately made sense. I love my Airwrap, and I think it's one of the most innovative tools on the market. However, I agree with (apparently) many consumers that it can be challenging to get the hairstyles to hold.

As someone with fine, wavy hair, I often use my Airwrap with the barrel attachment to add curls to my hair. I've played around with the tool for a few years, and although my hair always looks bouncy and voluminous immediately after I finish the styling process, it tends to fall by the end of the day, no matter what I do. I was excited to see if the Chitosan line of Pre-Styling Creams would make a difference in my routine.

The formula contains oyster mushrooms, grapeseed, castor, and argan oil, and beeswax to reduce frizz, protect against heat, and boost shine, in addition to helping with hold. The mushrooms within the formula are responsible for the soft and moveable yet structural hold that's designed to make your styles last longer. I was prescribed the Straight to Wavy Light Pre-Styling Cream to prep my damp hair, which made sense for my hair type.

I love that the brand didn't just develop one formula and call it a day — they really thought of every hair texture and density. The texture of the cream is light, and a little bit goes a long way for my fine hair. Once it was worked through my ends, I really couldn't tell that it was there.

The cream didn't impact the Airwrap styling process at all — the true test would come much later, after I'd left the salon. However, I did immediately notice how bouncy my hair looked and how nicely the Airwrap curls initially held. Even without pin-curling them, which I typically do when using this hot tool, they kept their shape.

The lightweight Post-Style Serum was used to tame any remaining flyaways, and I was off. Hours later, my hair still looked great. The curls had fallen slightly (which is normal for me), but it still looked like I recently got my hair done, which isn't always the case for me after using the Airwrap.

Fast forward to the next day, and I was pleasantly surprised that my hair still had some bounciness to it, though it looked more like a fresh blowout than curls by that point. All in all, the Chitosan Straight to Wavy Light Pre-Styling Cream certainly helped my Airwrap style stay longer than it typically does without it. Though my second-day hair still needed a quick touch-up, I didn't mind doing so because the Airwrap is gentle and doesn't cause as much heat damage as a traditional curling iron.

How to Use the Dyson Chitosan Hair-Care Products The Chitosan products come with a special pump applicator that dispenses the perfect amount of product in the palm of your hand. For the Pre-Styling Creams, it's recommended to use three to five pumps for fine hair and five to 10 pumps for thick hair; we used three for my head. The product is applied to towel-dried hair after sheering it out in your hands, before heat styling, from mid-length to ends.

Then, you style as usual. One to two pumps are recommended for the Post-Styling Serum once you're finished styling; my hairstylist used one pump on me. Just like any hair serum or oil, it's also applied from mid-lengths to ends, sealing the cuticle and adding shine.

What to Consider Before Trying the Dyson Chitosan Hair-Care Products Though the Dyson Chitosan line helps to increase the longevity of your Airwrap hairstyles, it's worth noting that the hair tool itself still provides more of a blowout finish than uniform curls. That said, if you use your Airwrap to style your hair often and love that bouncy blowout finish, these products would be great additions to your hair regimen.
